Indiana ASCD is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, vibrant, and diverse organization working together to build capacity and community among learners, teachers, and leaders dedicated to the success of all learners by advocating for educational excellence and equity. The organization has been an affiliate of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) since 1945 – one of the first affiliates in the nation.
We address all aspects of effective teaching to promote learning – such as professional development, educational leadership, capacity building, and advocacy. Unlike many other education associations, Indiana ASCD is comprised of educators serving varied roles – building and district administrators, classroom teachers, university and college professors, and educational consultants. Because we represent all educators, we focus solely on professional practice within the context of “What is in the best interest of children?” rather than what is reflective of a specific educator role.
Our parent organization, ASCD, has been advocating for educational excellence and equity since the organization was founded in 1943. Through their involvement in key national and international issues, ASCD has provided resources and expert opinions on broad-based issues such as school reform, professional development, organizational leadership, technology, and brain-based research and on more specific issues such as high-stakes testing, commercialism in schools, character education, service learning, First Amendment rights in education, and school violence.
Indiana ASCD is proud to be an affiliate of ASCD. We work to connect the resources and support of our parent organization to the local educators and school districts in Indiana. In addition, we support and actively participate in the formation of the ASCD legislative advocacy agenda.
